Anxiety & Life Transitions

Many experience anxiety and stress at some point in their life especially in their 20s & 30s. Whether from graduating from college, moving to a new city, considering a career change, family of origin issues, or having a baby, I am passionate about helping you learn healthy coping skills and techniques to work through what you are experiencing. I want to help you create a happier life!

Anxiety can present in many different ways and can begin as early as childhood. Oftentimes, what you encounter in childhood or in adolescence can impact how you think, feel, and cope in young adulthood. The longer you’ve been dealing with it, the more you think this might just be your “norm.”

For many, anxiety might appear as overanalyzing, worrying about the worst-case scenario, restlessness, difficulty concentrating, feeling on edge, or having an impending sense of doom. It can cause many physical symptoms, as well, including:

  • increased heart rate
  • muscle tension
  • Shakiness
  • Nausea
  • Dizziness
  • Sweating
  • issues falling or staying asleep
  • Headaches
  • Stomachaches
  • Fatigue

You’re more likely to struggle with anxiety if you have a family history of anxiety, shyness, or nervousness in new situations as a child, or if you were exposed to stressful life events.

Having some degree of anxiety around situational stressors such as taking a test, speaking in front of a crowd, or interviewing can be completely normal BUT if your anxieties are impacting how you’re functioning on a daily basis, then there are many methods we can use in therapy to decrease and better manage anxiety.

One of the most effective forms of therapy for anxiety is cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), which focuses on the relationship between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. When anxiety feels stuck in our bodies or we’re constantly in fight-or-flight mode, some clients also benefit from somatic therapies where we might focus on relaxation techniques, breath work, and mindfulness-based interventions.

Life Transitions

Young adulthood is filled with many life transitions – both planned and unplanned. This might look like:

  • changing jobs
  • getting laid off
  • moving to a new city
  • leaving your parent’s home
  • starting college
  • graduating college
  • navigating relationships
  • family-of-origin issues and realizations
  • starting your own family

Change is guaranteed in this life and we’re not always prepared for the adjustment process or the impact it has on us. These experiences can cause anxiety, perfectionistic tendencies, feelings of inadequacy, isolation, the grief of leaving another phase of your life, and sadness.

Engaging in online therapy in young adulthood can help you cope through your current stressors and can ultimately set you up for a healthier and happier life going forward.

Our work together can decrease your negative thinking patterns, improve current & future relationships, and enhance your own self-concept as you continue to grow personally and professionally.
